Our partner for the BLACKBERET range is the Jean d’Alibert group, the fourth largest vineyard owner in France with 6000 hectares under vine. The group brings together six different cooperatives with a total of 1500 winegrowers in the Minervois region of the Languedoc.
A state-of-the-art bottling plant, Les Celliers Jean d’Alibert, completes the vertical integration, from vineyard through winemaking to packaging. It has a capacity of 12 million bottles per year and also has a bag-in-box production facility.
The plant has had a HACCP plan in place since 1999 and is certified at a high level to the ISO9001:2000, BRC and IFS standards. Traceability is assured seamlessly, from finished product back to the individual vineyard parcels, providing the consumer with a guarantee of origin as well as quality.
Each of the cooperatives in the group has its own dedicated team of qualified winemakers. Each produces different styles and varietals, according to the climate and soil type of their vineyards.
This provides a huge palate of blending operations for winemaking consultant Hugh Ryman when he creates the blends for the BLACKBERET range. Hugh is a graduate of the prestigious school of winemaking at Bordeaux University and went on to gain practical experience in Australia, working at Petaluma with the legendary winemaker Brian Croser.
